ELOQUESTA SHIRAZ PETIT VERDOT 2017

This is the 9th Edition of the most illustrious red in my portfolio. The Shiraz Petit Verdot 2017, where the Shiraz Fruit has come from the Burgoyne Vineyard, coming into its own.

2017 was a fantastic year for this Vineyard and was Mick Burgoyne’s last, and his pride for this well drained Hillside Vineyard sporting sensational Shiraz came through infinitely.

There was a drought, but the water retention in the soil was fantastic. The Summer brought even ripening weather and great bunch weights. The berries were small and intense and the acid held wonderfully. Ripeness was clean and reliable.

The Petit Verdot also displayed great intensity, but elegance, the ripeness was good, but I have found this to be the most elegant Petit Verdot we have made thus far. All wine was fermented as usual, 2 to 3 week ferments, hand plunging 3 times daily then put into old and new French and Hungarian Oak Hogshead for 3.5 years! This is a long time but this made for a distinct softness and roundness and a chic elegance on the palate that I have never seen before!

TASTING NOTES

Nose displays the distinct plummy violets, tobacco, gingerbread, spice.. Palate shows the same but with more creamy berries, green pepper and anise on the length. The acid is strong and holds the structure together, but the ripeness and plump softness in the wine makes this elegant wine even more drinkable now, but will accept 8 – 10 years of aging.
